Department of Health: 

90 New COVID-19 Cases Today – All on O‘ahu 

All 90 new cases of coronavirus reported by DOH today are on the island of O‘ahu. It’s been several months since case counts were zero for all Neighbor Islands. No additional deaths were reported.

Hawai‘i COVID-19 Counts as of 12:00 noon, Sept. 27, 2020    

On Sunday, one (1) additional death was reported by DOH. This was an O‘ahu woman,

older than 80, who had underlying conditions and had been hospitalized.

Hawai‘i COVID-19 Counts as of 12:00 noon, Sept. 26, 2020    

On Saturday, four (4) additional deaths were reported by DOH, all on O‘ahu. A man, between

50 and 59-years-old had been hospitalized with no underlying conditions. Another man,

80 or older did have underlying conditions and was also hospitalized. Two women, both had

underlying conditions and had been in the hospital.  One was 70 to 79-years old and the other

was 60 to 69-years-old.

Department of the Attorney General: 

Honolulu Woman Accused of Violating Quarantine After Compliance Check 

30-year-old Kimbra L. Jaynes was arrested at her Ala Moana area condominium this morning by Special Agents from the AG’s Investigations Division. 

She arrived back in Honolulu on Sept. 17th and last Thursday agents found Jaynes was following her quarantine order during door-to-door compliance checks. On Friday, agents were notified that she had left her condo to go shopping.  

Jaynes was charged and booked and her bail is set at $2,000.

Neighbor Island Jail MassTesting Begins with Staff    

PSD’s Health Care Division is continuing to work with DOH to conduct mass testing for COVID-19 at all correctional facilities statewide. The broad-based testing at the neighbor island jails is beginning with staff members. The Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center staff have already been tested by the DOH Kaua‘i District Office. All 53 staff test results were negative. PSD Deputy Director for Administration/Acting Director Maria Cook said, “The jail staff are being tested first so we can make sure they are cleared and ready to assist when it’s time to begin inmate testing in the neighbor island jail facilities. Transient, pre-trial jail populations are very different from sentenced prison populations. The overcrowded conditions combined with the constant intake and release in the jail system present a unique set of challenges and requires thorough staffing, operational and logistical planning between DOH, PSD and the jail facilities before inmate testing can begin.”   

The order of the facilities next in line for inmate testing is being worked out. The Halawa Correctional Facility is also undergoing staff testing this week with the help of the Hawai‘i National Guard. PSD and DOH are continuing mass testing of O‘ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) inmates to mitigate the spread of the virus in the incarcerated population. One OCCC inmate test result received Monday was negative. There are currently no inmates hospitalized. The total number of inmates who have recovered increased to 307.
