Hawaii Landlords Invited to Webinar on Residential Rent Help and Mediation

The Office of Economic Revitalization invites landlords and the community to attend a webinar about the City’s nationally recognized Rental and Utility Relief Program and the advantages of mediation for landlords and renters.

“We’re grateful that many landlords have been patient with their renters during these difficult times,” said Amy Asselbaye, executive director of the Office of Economic Revitalization. “This webinar will help landlords understand how to apply on behalf of their eligible tenants for up to 12 months of rent. It will also explain the changes to state law regarding evictions and how effective mediation with tenants can help to resolve issues and find solutions for overdue rent.”

The Rental and Utility Relief Program has distributed more than $85 million to 1,300 landlords to date. Landlords can apply for the program with their tenants’ written consent.

The webinar will be live-streamed on December 6, 2021, from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., at the One Oahu Facebook page: facebook.com/OneOahu. No Facebook account is needed to watch and the webinar will be recorded and available on the One Oahu Facebook page as a community resource.

Presenters will be Amy Asselbaye, executive director of the Office of Economic Revitalization, Tracey Wiltgen of The Mediation Center of the Pacific, and attorney David Chee. The U.S. Department of Treasury has recognized the City as one of the nation’s highest-performing municipalities in distributing rent and utility
