Kaimuki, Kapahulu, Kahala Pavement Work Begins

The City of Honolulu will be applying surface treatments to preserve select residential city roads in Kaimuki, Kapahulu and Kahala beginning August 17. These treatments are aimed at preserving the road pavement, extending the service life of our city roads and reducing the formation of potholes on our roadways. The project includes but is not limited to: repairing pavement base failures, crack sealing, slurry seal, seal coat, tree trimming, and curb and gutter reconstruction.

The construction work is projected to be completed in Summer 2021. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except holidays. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance through postal mail when their road will be closed for surface treatment work. Residents are advised that on-street parking will also be prohibited during construction and “No Parking Tow Away” signs will be posted a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Trash pickup and U.S. Postal services will continue as scheduled.  Emergency access will be accommodated as needed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes. Please allow extra travel time, abide by posted traffic signs, obey all traffic controls and special duty police officers.

For questions and concerns about the construction, please contact City’s construction manager WSP USA, Inc. at (808) 566-2252 or City’s contractor Alakona Corp.at (808) 833-1991.
