Lanikai parking restricted for Memorial Day Weekend

The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will be restricting parking in Lanikai starting Saturday, May 29, 2021 in an effort to reduce traffic congestion for residents along the Lanikai-Kaʻōhao shoreline during the Memorial Day Weekend.

No parking will be allowed on all streets and shoulders of Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives in Lanikai from 10 am to 3 pm for the entire Memorial Day Weekend.

Parking will also be restricted on cross-streets connecting Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives.

DTS will place temporary “sawhorse” type signs on streets in Lanikai to warn drivers of the parking restrictions.

Following Memorial Day Weekend, DTS will leave the barriers in place in Lanikai, due to the on-going construction by the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) in the area. BWS is replacing water mains in several areas of Lanikai in phases. The current phase of construction provides limited access in and out of Lanikai; these parking restrictions aim at maintaining emergency vehicle and resident access to and from the neighborhood. DTS will be restricting parking in Lanikai starting Tuesday June 1st, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm. This parking restriction is expected to last through December 2021. Future phases of this project are further into Lanikai and should not present the same concerns regarding access for Honolulu Police, Fire and ambulances.

After the Memorial Day weekend, during construction, the “sawhorse” type signs will remain on streets in Lanikai during the day to warn drivers of the parking restrictions. On Mondays through Fridays, excluding holidays, parking will be allowed after 4 pm (cars must be moved before 8:30 am).
