Storm Water Hero Category finalists announced

The Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) Storm Water Quality (SWQ) Division announced its Storm Water Hero category winners for the 18th Annual ‘Ōlelo Youth Xchange Video Contest (YXC) this week with a special awards show on ‘Ōlelo channel 53.

As a part of its You are the Solution campaign, the DFM-SWQ challenged Hawai‘i’s youth to submit up to a two-minute public service announcement video that encourages residents to pledge to perform simple tasks to help protect our local waters. 

“Congratulations to all participants and our Storm Water Hero Category winners in the 2021 Youth Xchange Video Contest,” said Roger Babcock Jr., Ph.D., P.E., Director and Chief Engineer of DFM. “These students are part of the solution and are educating the community on ways to protect Hawaii’s environment through simple efforts like putting litter in its place, sweeping our streets and gutters, and containing the rain.”

Be the Solution! – Moanalua Middle

The Safe Water Heroes – Niu Valley Middle

Put Aside the Pesticides – Kalāheo High

Littering is Stoppable if You are Responsible! – Moanalua High
