ACLU of Hawaii Appoints New Development Director
The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i (ACLU of Hawaii) announced the addition to its team of Lauren Fukuda, joining as Development Director. Her position is part of a strategic expansion by the local ACLU affiliate to build its capacity and reach in order to better protect and advance civil rights for all the people of Hawai‘i.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Fukuda is returning to the islands after spending several years in the Midwest. She believes in a donor-centric, relationship-driven approach to fundraising and works with supporters to help them discern the causes and issues close to their own hearts.
On joining the team, Lauren Fukuda said: “Now, more than ever, I can’t think of a more important or urgent cause than the fight for justice and the preservation of our civil rights. I’m incredibly humbled and excited to join the ACLU and help bring about the changes to make our communities safer, more just, and places where diversity is not only accepted, but celebrated.”
Prior to joining the ACLU of Hawaii, Fukuda worked as Director of Major Gifts Development at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She has also served as the Director of the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement at Iowa Western Community College.
Executive Director Joshua Wisch said: “With every passing day it is increasingly clear that the fight to protect our civil rights has never been more critical. The ACLU of Hawaii serves an important role as a government watchdog and guardian of civil liberties. To sustain and grow that work, we need the right support and resources. I’m confident Lauren is going to be a key player in increasing our capacity as we continue to do our best to serve the people of Hawai‘i.”
