Hawaii Daily COVID-19 update of coronavirus reports and statistics from government departments as of Monday, December 28, 2020, in the Aloha State.

Department of Health: 

46 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Statewide

46 additional coronavirus cases were reported today. This report includes cases up until Saturday at 11:59 p.m. Full data is posted on the State COVID-19 dashboard and on the DOH Disease Outbreak & Control website at noon each day. hawaiicovid19.com/dashboard

Hospitalizations as of 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 28, 2020 – Hawai‘i-4, Maui-1, O‘ahu-128, Kaua’i‘-1

++As a result of updated information, one case from O‘ahu was removed from the counts.

Inmate and Staff Testing Continues

The Halawa Correctional Facility (HCF) reported 42 more inmate test results over the holiday weekend as part of surge testing efforts. Of that total, 10 were positive, 30 were negative, and two (2) were inconclusive. There are seven (7) inmates hospitalized. Additionally, 39 HCF inmates have recovered bringing the total active positive inmate cases down to 275. There were three (3) more positive staff cases reported and seven (7) staff recoveries, dropping the total active positive staff cases to 27. Surge testing, with the assistance of DOH, the Hawai‘i National Guard and Project Vision Hawai‘i, will continue at HCF until there are no new positive cases at the facility.

All other facilities that experienced outbreaks have brought their COVID-19 count under control. The O‘ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) reports 32 more negative inmate test results over the holiday weekend. There are zero (0) active positive OCCC inmates. The Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, AZ is clear of the virus in their facility. One of the three (3) inmates in an Arizona hospital was medically cleared leaving two (2) active positive Hawaiʻi inmates hospitalized. The Waiawa Correctional Facility (WCF) reported 18 more negative inmate results. There is only one (1) active positive inmate at the facility and one (1) in the hospital. Hawaiʻi Visitor Statistics Released for November 2020

In November 2020, visitor arrivals to Hawaiian Islands decreased 77.3 percent compared to a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to preliminary statistics released today by HTA. A total of 183,779 visitors traveled to Hawaiʻi by air service and cruise ship last month compared to 809,076 visitors in November 2019.

13,332 Passengers Arrived on Sunday

Yesterday, a total of 13,332 people arrived in Hawai‘i from out of state. A total of 7,660 people indicated they came to Hawai‘i for vacation. There were also 2,108 returning residents. The trans-Pacific passenger arrival data is derived from data provided by the Safe Travels digital system.
