Honolulu Adds Saturday Hours to Renew Driver’s License and State ID

The two largest driver licensing centers in the City and County of Honolulu will open on Saturdays for the rest of the year, starting Nov. 6.

The Kapālama Driver Licensing Center and the Kapolei Driver Licensing Center will take customers with appointments or on standby for all services — except a road test — from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The new weekend hours are expected to help meet public demand to renew the more than 16,000 driver’s licenses, state identification cards and permits that are set to expire over the next two months.

“The new Saturday business hours will greatly benefit the thousands of residents who need our services,” said Nola Miyasaki, director of the City’s Department of Customer Services. “We strongly urge people to take advantage of the expanded hours going into the holiday season.”

The Windward City, Pearlridge and Downtown satellite city halls are also open on Saturdays for customers who need to renew driver’s licenses, learner’s permits or state identification cards.

To make an appointment, go to AlohaQ.org. Stand-by service is offered to offset customer cancellations and an estimated 30 percent no-show rate.

O‘ahu residents with driver’s licenses, learner’s permits and state identification cards that have expired since the middle of March 2020 have until Nov. 30, 2021 to renew. Gov. David Ige’s latest emergency proclamation extended to Nov. 30, 2021 the expiration dates on these credentials that have expired since March 16, 2020.
