Honolulu Hale Illuminated for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Mayor Rick Blangiardi has requested that Honolulu Hale be lit in the color teal from sundown on Thursday, Nov. 4 through sunrise on Friday, Nov. 5, to recognize “Light the World in Teal” Day to raise awareness as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

“Our kūpuna and aging population mean so much to us here in Hawai‘i, which is why providing support to individuals, families, and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease is critical.” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Increasing awareness of this terrible disease, reducing stigma, and letting people know that no one has to deal with Alzheimer’s alone, are all important to improving quality of life. I hope you’ll join us in “Going Teal” this month to further that mission and show support for those living with Alzheimer’s disease.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), more than 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to reach nearly 14 million by 2060. Teal is the AFA’s Alzheimer’s awareness color.
