Honolulu Storm Water Quality Branch sponsors virtual world oceans day celebration
The City Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) Storm Water Quality (SWQ) Branch will serve as one of several community sponsors of this year’s Virtual 4th Annual World Oceans Day Celebration. Presented via the web, Saturday, June 13 at 3 p.m., the World Oceans Day Celebration honors this global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future.
“We’re very excited to participate in the first ever virtual celebration of World Oceans Day,” said Ross S. Sasamura, P.E., Director and Chief Engineer of the City’s Department of Facility Maintenance. “In line with this year’s theme of Kui ʻia ka lei moku e Kanaloa: The Ocean Unites Humanity, World Oceans Day celebrates the ocean as a source of comfort, a place to recreate and unwind, encourages environmental stewardship and most importantly is a vital source of sustenance for those in need. We’re proud to participate in an innovative new way to say mahalo to our oceans.”
The World Oceans Day Celebration will feature virtual storytelling with special guests, musical performances, and education and sustainability activities with a strong career focus. As sponsors of the event, the City and County of Honolulu’s DFM SWQ Branch will present a proclamation from Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and premiere a video featuring City staff demonstrating storm water pollution prevention practices.
World Oceans Day is presented by Ko Olina Resort in partnership with the City and County of Honolulu DFM SWQ Branch; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); and Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa.
