Stay at Home Order for Oahu
Today, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell issued a Stay at Home, Work from Home order starting midnight Thursday. Today, Hawaii has 215 new cases of coronavirus.
He agreed with Governor Ige that more has to be done.
The order will be set for 2 weeks. It’s about saving lives.
A 160-room hotel will be made available to house residents that were in contact with infected people. This is to help communities to separate infected from healthy people from a tense family environment.
According to the Mayor, this is especially true for the Micronesian and Filipino communities. These communities have been hit hardest.
A new search requirement allows for an additional 5,000 tests a day, which is a total of about 70,000 tests in the last 2 weeks. The newly-developed test can be self-administered through the nose.
This is a significant increase from the current 1,500 tests.
The increase in cases has been creating a challenge for hospitals.
The situation is critical according to Vice Admiral Jerome Adams, US Surgeon General. Hawaii is considered in the yellow range of measurement, making yellow critical in infection increase.
Reopening the state will be considered when the increase of infection goes back into the green.
Oahu has 397 hospitalizations, which is 165 more than a week ago. Currently, 50 sick people are in the ICU.
Currently, Hawaii has 4,472 active cases of COVID-19 on Oahu.
6-11% of sick people will end up in a hospital.
This order is valid for Honolulu County, which includes all of the islands of Oahu at this time.
Religious services may continue with restrictions.
