Ahead of Hurricane Douglas, Hawaii Food Distribution on Saturday

The City and County of Honolulu and a private sector partnership of local construction, development and other industries and the Hawai‘i Foodbank will partner together once again to support the final Hawaii food distribution scheduled for July to be held at the Polynesian Cultural Center tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note that pre-registration by zip code was required for tomorrow’s food distribution and registration for this event has closed.

“O‘ahu’s hungry families still need food assistance even more so now with Hurricane Douglas nearing our islands,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “We are again thankful for the support of our partners in the construction industry, along with the non-profit sector, as we continue to help local families in need.”

The Honolulu Police Department, City Department of Transportation Services, Honolulu Emergency Services Department and the Department of Emergency Management will manage traffic and logistics as well as ensure the health safety of those receiving food. Hawaii Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) will provide much needed additional support to the distribution.

“The demand for food assistance within our island communities is still there,” said Hawai‘i Foodbank President and CEO Ron Mizutani. “This outstanding private sector partnership between the construction, development has accomplished much to help feed Hawai‘i’s families and for that we are extremely thankful.”

Four food partners – Hawai‘i Farm Bureau, Hawai‘i Foodservice Alliance, H&W Foodservice and Sysco Hawai‘i – will provide high-quality food products for a total of 3,250 households.

The construction, development and other industries provided over $250,000 in funding and volunteers for the food distributions. Participating funders and partners include Commercial Plumbing Inc., Bowers & Kubota, Kobayashi Group, Black Sand Capital, Albert C. Kobayashi, J. Kadowaki Inc., Moss Construction – Hawai‘i, JL Capital, Ferguson Enterprises – Hawai‘i, Great Aloha Run, Design Partners Inc., RMY Construction Inc., Nagamine Okawa Engineers, Okahara and Associates, Howard Hughes, and Hawai‘i Executive Collaborative.

“We know that the pandemic and its negative impacts will continue to have an effect on our community for a while,” said Randy Hiraki, president of Commercial Plumbing, Inc. “So when Mayor Caldwell and Duane Kurisu asked the private sector to step up to help, each company that we asked was honored to play a role in being able to support our households. I want to thank our 14 partners who have generously come together. We know however, that the work is not done and hope that others will consider ways to help our community during this difficult time.”
