Makiki Stream maintenance starts today

The City & County of Honolulu, Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) will begin maintenance of Makiki Stream between Philip Street and Fern Street beginning July 6, 2021. The maintenance work is authorized under Department of the Army Permit POH-2017-00198 issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

DFM’s Division of Road Maintenance will be utilizing heavy equipment to remove overgrown vegetation, rocks, silt, and other material from approximately 800 linear feet section of Makiki Stream. The City appreciates the community’s patience as work is performed in the area with increased noise levels throughout the duration of the maintenance work due to the use of heavy equipment in the stream area and large trucks that will be used to haul the vegetation and debris. The maintenance work will be performed Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The maintenance work is expected to be completed by July 16, 2021, pending good weather conditions, and availability of equipment and manpower.

If you should have any questions, please contact Mr. Scott Kaku, Division of Road Maintenance’s Heavy Equipment Supervisor at (808) 768-3642.
