Mayor Caldwell on Passing of Senator Breene Harimoto

Breene Harimoto was the most gentle man I’ve ever met. When you say ‘ladies and gentlemen,’ he’s the epitome of what a gentleman is. I have not seen anyone with the standards that he lived his life by. A very spiritual person. A very ethical person.

“Before I even got into office, I would write him a check in support of his campaigns, and he’d return it. I don’t know a lot of politicians who do those kinds of things. And I think the person who is his legacy in politics is Brandon Elefante, who worked for him. And if you spend some time with Brandon you’ll hear Breene’s voice.

“I want to extend my condolences to Breene’s family, and I think the standards that he set will live on in anyone who’s in public service.”

State Sen. Breene Harimoto died on Thursday night, June 18, 2020, after a 5-year battle first with pancreatic cancer and then lung cancer. Despite his health  battle, he kept serving his Pearl Harbor-Pearl City-Aiea district through the first part of this year’s legislative session. Senator Harimoto was 66.
