US Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt to visit Pearl Harbor
US Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhardt, will visit the Pearl Harbor National Memorial tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, to brief a congressional delegation and other officials about repairs underway on the USS Arizona Memorial loading dock. The briefing will include an overview of the process in close proximity to the Memorial from a US Navy passenger vessel.
Secretary Bernhardt commented, “I have made it a top priority to ensure that the repairs to the USS Arizona Memorial loading dock are completed to standard and as quickly as possible so that visitors to Pearl Harbor National Memorial can regain access to this iconic American structure.” The Secretary’s visit reflects his commitment to ensuring the work is completed promptly and to ensure that leadership within the National Park Service has a clear vision on the path forward.
Members of the media are invited to film the vessel from Ford Island as the Secretary, Congressional Delegation and officials from the National Park Service conduct their meeting on board. After filming the briefing, media members are invited to transit from Ford Island to Mary’s Point Landing for a brief Q&A session with the Secretary once he disembarks the vessel.
