Waialua Beach Road Bridge reopens today

The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC), is pleased to announce that construction and repair work on Bridge 605, Waialua Beach Road Ki‘iki‘i Stream Crossing will be completed tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, which is ahead of schedule.

While the bridge will become safe to traverse, it will reopen with a maximum allowable load limit of 25 tons per vehicle. Signs have been posted notifying drivers of the weight limit. The bridge has been subject to extensive damage in its 69 years of use and will require replacement in the next five to seven years. The City will be planning to design and construct a new bridge in that time that includes a temporary bypass during construction in order to minimize disruption.

Vegetation on the stream bank will continue to be monitored and maintained until fully established

The City would like to thank the community for its patience and cooperation during the necessary construction. Please continue to travel with caution and aloha.
