Waikiki may welcome visitors back in July

Today, Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced an extension of the Stay-at-Home order until June 30, but it was renamed to “Restore Honolulu.”

Parks and some retail stores are opening as of May 16, and the Mayor is planning to send a recommendation to the Governor on how to open restaurants starting June 5 allowing outside dining on sidewalks during extended day times, including the consumption of liquor.

Restaurants with indoor dining should have an entrance and a different exit to allow one-way traffic by visitors.

The Mayor said Honolulu acted immediately when the virus started spreading and will be slower and safer when going back to normal.

The Mayor knows that it will only show 2 weeks after an action is taken, on how the result will be.

If the step-by-step approach of the opening is working, the visitor industry may be next to open starting in July.
